Gainesville Home Inspection - Unthinking Installation

This is a hose bib on a new house.  It has never been used.  It may never be used!

At my house, the hose bib is by itself.

It is not near an electrical junction box!

It is not so close to anything else that the handle cannot be turned.

It is not so close to the wall (here 1/4") that installing a hose is not difficult.

It does not pull 3" out of the wall of my house.

It is usable and I can use it.  In fact, it is easy to use!

This new hose on this new house is none of that.

IT IS ALSO NOT SMART!!  THIS HAS BEEN LOOKED AT EVERY DAY BY SOME BUILDING CONSTRUCTION SUPERVISOR FOR SOME TIME AND NOTHING WAS EVER DONE ABOUT IT!!

Apparently it was also approved by the County.  Hmmm...  Apparently all the foresight that went into this installation is to code.  Remember, the "Code" is a minimal standard.  This installation certainly is ALL of that!!

My recommendation:  While it doesn't take a home inspection to see some unthinking installations, when you are buying a new home, get a home inspection!  THAT shouldn't take a lot of thought...
