Jay Markanich (bilingual in English and Spanish) has been a licensed general contractor and home inspector since 1981. He has performed home inspections full time since 1987. This long experience equips him to render expert opinions based on practical experience and honest conviction.
Jay's computerized inspections are easy to understand and recognized to be one of the best in the industry. The report differs in that it points out positive aspects of the home in addition to potential problems. It is generated in 20 minutes at the time of the inspection, and is typically 15 typed pages or so. Its three sections include a Summary, Analysis of the House and an Analysis of the Systems and Components. It automatically cross references into his excellent book, Your House, Your Home, for a thorough explanation of all identified items. The book is over 400 pages long, two columns per page, and rife with photos, diagrams and charts. It is revised and updated nearly annually. We are proud of it and consider it to be one of the most comprehensive and understandable books in the industry. It is given to the client at the time of the inspection.

Jay Markanich renders inspections in nearly all of northern Virginia - from Lovettsville to Fredericksburg to Arlington/Alexandria to Culpeper. There is not a county in Northern Virginia he does not service, but Jay spends most of his time in Prince William, Loudoun, Fairfax and Arlington counties. He also does inspections in Maryland, nearest to Virginia. He frequently travels out of the area for special client needs.
Jay's services include pre-drywall inspections, complete home inspections of condos, townhouses and old and new detached homes, a special interest in and ability for historic properties, environmental tests (radon and lead), home energy audits and thermal-infrared image analyses.
He is a certified home inspector with I-NACHI (the Inter-National Association of Certified Home Inspectors), the Housing Inspection Foundation, as well as certifications with the Association of Construction Inspectors, Environmental Assessment Association and ESA Environmental Association. He is also a certified Home Energy Efficiency Expert registered with CMC Energy Services, Inc. His home energy audits can save homeowners as much as 30% in their energy bills. He has earned certification in Thermal Imaging and Building Science. He is certified in and familiar with Green Building Techniques and Products.
